March 2, 1926—February 21, 2005

Born in Daytona Beach and a seventeen year resident of Lake County (DeLand) Florida and before that Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Dorothy and her husband Larry were long time members of the Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Detroit. While in Michigan the club held numerous meeting at their home. Their farm was also the site of matches and informal clinics. Dorothy, being a breeder-judge, was also willing to share her expertise and knowledge of the breed. Many a club member got their start in shelties at Teaberry Lane. Dorothy’s eye for type and expression as well as her willingness to suggest possible breeding combinations is something that many benefitted from. The club still has part of Dorothy, way back when she and another member Gini Shaw took a ceramics class and Dorothy made a “brag pot” this pot is still used today to collect funds from members for their brags. As a breeder-judge Dorothy judged all over the country, and she also had the honor of judging the 1978 ASSA National, giving best of breed to Ch. Chenterra Thunderation.. Teaberry Lane produced numerous champions throughout the years, the most memorable ones are the brothers, Ch. Teaberry Lane Hullabaloo and Ch. Teaberry Lane Malarkey. Others are Am Can Ch. Teaberry Lane Queen of the May, CD, Ch. Teaberry Lame Royl Tycoon, Ch. Teaberry Lame Hobbit Karma, Ch. Teaberry Lane’s Sea Isle Regis, Ch. Teaberry Lane What’s His Name, Ch. Teaberry Lane Sporting Woman and Am Can U-CD Ch. Nutmeg Cinnamon N’ Spice Am Can CDX, HC. Dorothy shared her best and because of this the Teaberry name can be found behind a great many dogs through out the country. Trained as a Registered Nurse she was, as well, a writer authoring a gardening book Trowel and Error and won awards from The Dog Writers of America for her writing in that field. She was a weaver who exhibited her work at the Detroit Institute of Arts. She was a costumer for a Shakespeare repertory theater designing some 3-400 costumes a season. Her sculptures were acclaimed and she designed exquisite jewelry. She was an AKC licensed dog show judge and a highly regarded breeder of Shetland Sheepdogs under the kennel name Teaberry Lane. She leaves behind a loving and devoted husband, Larry Nathan Burns. As an avid and voracious reader she would be best remembered by donations of books on any subject to any library. She will be greatly missed.
