Membership Application

Thank you for expressing your interest in the Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Detroit. We feel it is important that you have a clear understanding of our club goals and objectives. Our ultimate goal is the betterment of the breed through education of our members. Some of the activities the club sponsors to accomplish this goal include: matches, specialty shows and obedience trials, specialized clinics and seminars on a wide range of topics. These types of activities require highly motivated, energetic members willing to participate in all aspects of work connected with these events. This includes the planning, organization and implementation of the activities.
Our meetings are generally held the second Thursday of the month with the exception of the month of our specialty, January and February. The general format of the meeting are as follows: traditional club business, club announcements, events information, member information, brags and we try to end with a speaker, program or clinic.
Two types of membership are available. Regular membership and Associate membership. All persons in good standing with the AKC, shall be eligible for regular membership after attending at least three(3) meetings within one year (calendar). Within this period of time the applicant must also serve on at least one committee for the club, and obtain the sponsorship of two regular members (not in the same household) in good standing. Once this is completed the applicant may then submit his/her application. When the application is received by the corresponding secretary the applicant's name(s) must be announced at  least three meeting  and put on the SSCGD list times. After the third publication the application will be brought before the membership at the next meeting for voting. The results of the vote will be mailed to the applicant.
Regular members are entitled to vote, receive all club mailings. In addition they also receive discounts for clinics and seminars sponsored by the club. There are two types of Regular membership, single (one person) or dual (two members of the same family). Associate members are entitled to receive club mailings only (match fliers and other notices.
