SHETLAND SHEEPDOG CLUB OF
GREATER DETROIT
HERDING PAGE
The Shetland Sheepdog Club of Greater Detroit held its first herding fun day in 2001. After that event a committee was formed and chaired by Anita Paull to pursue AKC approval to hold herding trials. First we had to have a match, that was held on March 9, 2003. Upon the successful completion of the this "qualifying sanctioned Herding Test/Trial" the club applied for a licensed herding event. The Club received approval from AKC and our first AKC herding trial took place on October 2004.
Thank you to Anita Paull, Nancy Heinrich, Nancy Potter, Terri Korthals, and Beth Krause for forming the first herding committee. Pam Moore was the Club officer for the committee. Since 2001 the committee has grown and the trials have progressed and drawn bigger entries. As the saying goes, "... if not for the efforts of a few strong women....." The SSCGD members continue to support the herding events and member participation continues to grow.
All herding trials prior to 2023 were held at Hado-Bar Farms in Nova, Ohio unless otherwise stated. Starting in 2023, the trial moved to Pinckney, MI.
